While many are religiously observing the government’s strict orders to stay at home and maintain social distancing, some are clearly unperturbed and still going on about their businesses in some African regions.

So was the case in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa when two love birds held a wedding party on Sunday after tieing the nuptial knot.

Unfortunately for the unnamed couple, married life got off to an unexpected start when police showed up to the party.

They had received a tip-off that the wedding in KwaZulu-Natal was happening on Sunday despite a nationwide ban on all public gatherings because of coronavirus.

All 40 wedding guests, the pastor who conducted ceremony, and the newlyweds themselves were promptly arrested and taken to a police station outside Richards Bay.

The whole group is to be charged in court on Monday.

Widely circulated videos show the moment the besuited groom helps his wife into the back of a police van in her white wedding dress, complete with train and veil:

South Africa, currently has 1,655 confirmed cases of coronavirus with 11 deaths.

The country is now in the second week of one of the world’s strictest lockdown with nothing but essential movement permitted.

There is also a ban on buying alcohol and cigarettes.
