Despite a 2-1 loss to Katsina United Feeders at Katsina on Thursday, Akwa United have reached the semi-finals of the Federations cup, also known as the Aiteo Cup.

Akwa United have now joined Sunshine Stars of Akure, Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi, and Niger Tornadoes in the Semi Finals. Akwa United had beaten Katsina United 7-0 in the first leg of the quarter final tie last Sunday and despite winning the second leg, the Katsina team could not overturn Akwa’s advantage.

The Uyo-based club will now host Sunshine Stars on Saturday with the return leg in Ijebu-ode next week Wednesday.

The other semi-final will also be an all-NPFL affair – holders FC Ifeanyiubah vs Niger Tornadoes.

FC Ifeanyiubah will host the first leg on Saturday.

The final is slated for October 8 with the cup winners representing Nigeria at next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
