An aircraft belonging to Overland Airways on Friday caught fire at one of the General Aviation Terminal hangars at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

The fire reportedly started at about 10:30 am when the plane, which was being serviced at the tarmac, suddenly went up in flames while it was still connected to the Group Ground Power Unit of the local airport.

It was gathered that there was an explosion as the aircraft burned, sending splinters all over the airport.

No one has been reported hurt.

“It’s big fire,” a witness said.

“Half of the Overland Airways plane are burnt, while some chartered aircraft being repaired were also torched.”

As at press time, Fire-fighters were on ground trying to put out the fire and the corporate affairs unit of the Overland Airways was yet to issue any statement concerning the fire incident.
