INEC has already declared February 16, 2019 as the date for the presidential elections.

The Gubernatorial, Gov. State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Area Council elections will come after the presidential elections. They have been fixed for Saturday 2nd March 2019.

INEC announced the election date last month and the clock has been ticking since then. It is now 471 days to the elections as INEC struggles to register more voters to participate.

The electoral body held a meeting of its officials in september after which it released figures concerning its preparations on its Twitter page.

According to INEC, the foundation of a free and fair election rest on credible Voter Register and so it is discussing the Continous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

So far, 2,786,405 citizens have registered in the ongoing exercise out of which 1,619,513 (58%) are Male while 1,166,892 (42%) are female. In addition, 108,752 unclaimed PVCs were collected. 132,431 requested for transfer while 261,429 requested for replacement of their PVCs.
