A masked gunman has shot dead Oluwarotimi Akinroyeje, a clergyman with Christ Apostolic Church, at the church’s Mission House in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Media sources gathered that the assailant scaled the fence of the church located at Ago Gbooro area of Ore, went straight to the Mission House and shot the clergyman at close range with a locally-made gun, about 1a.m. on Monday.

Meanwhile, detectives from the state Police Command are yet to unravel the motive behind the cold-blooded murder of the clergyman. His killer, according to church members, did not take anything from the house. It was further learned that the killer waited for Akinroyeje to die before leaving the scene.

A member of the church, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The man, who wore a mask, entered into the Mission House in the middle of the night, brought out a locally-made gun and killed the pastor. “He did not take anything. He just shot the pastor, waited for him to die and then he left.”

Spokesperson for the state Police Command, Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, said the cleric was assassinated by an unknown gunman. Joseph, however, expressed disappointment that the family members of the pastor were not cooperating with detectives in giving useful information to track down his killers, lamenting that “it is rather unfortunate that the family members of the deceased are not cooperating with the Police in its investigations.

“They have been invited several times, but they have failed to show up. The family of the deceased should do well to cooperate with the Police because their only concern is for us to release the corpse to them for burial. “It is always good if the family can be feeding us with useful information; we are not magicians.

“It is from the information we get that we can have our lead and arrest the perpetrator. What the family is doing on the matter is not good enough.”
