As the Nigerian Federations Cup, now dubbed Aiteo Cup enters the finals, there is a lot of excitement and interest that the tournament has generated. Besides the fact that the tournament now has a corporate sponsor after several years, the stakes have been raised.
New sponsor, Aiteo; an integrated indigenous oil and gas company founded by billionaire Benedict Peters, has injected funds that have made it more competitive and rewarding to participate.
Also, since Aiteo took over sponsorship, the prize money has been increased. The winner of the Male tournament gets N25million while the winner of the female tournament gets N10million. With the injection of funds, the Federations cup has come alive as it has never done in a long time, recording several offsets as the competition hots up for the grand prize. The fund has definitely induced liveliness and colour in the tournament. The Aiteo cup kicked off on August 11 will end on October 15, when the winner is declared.
With the 3-2 aggregate victory over Sunshine stars by Akwa United and Tornadoes’ triumph over Ifeanyi Ubah, the stage is set for a dramatic encounter in the finals, to be played in Lagos on Sunday, October 15, 2017.
