Manchester United have confirmed that midfielder Casemiro will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old Brazilian joined Man United from Real Madrid in 2022 in a deal worth around £70 million and has made 146 appearances for the Red Devils.
However, United have decided against extending his £350,000-a-week contract beyond this summer, meaning Casemiro has a maximum of 16 games remaining in a United shirt.
The Brazilian enjoyed an impressive debut season in England, scoring the opening goal in the 2023 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle United and helping United finish third in the Premier League.
Last year, the midfielder was referenced by new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who suggested that some players at the club were “not good enough” and “overpaid,” comments widely interpreted as part of United’s broader squad overhaul.
Reacting to the news, Casemiro insisted his focus remains firmly on finishing the season strongly.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” he said. “It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.
“We still have a lot to fight for together. My complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
Casemiro enjoyed a revival under Ruben Amorim and also started Michael Carrick’s first match in charge against Manchester City. Nevertheless, United confirmed in a surprise announcement that no new contract would be offered.
