Chief Sam Onuigbo, a former federal legislator, has expressed strong confidence in the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
He made the remarks in an interview with journalists on Sunday during his family thanksgiving at St Paul’s Methodist Church, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
Onuigbo said his optimism is grounded in the president’s bold and far-reaching decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for growth, prosperity, and security.
He acknowledged that the country faces challenges but noted that citizens should also recognise Tinubu’s effective leadership over the past two years.
Onuigbo, who represents the South-East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission, said, “I have no doubt whatsoever that in 2027, Tinubu will be re-elected as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The facts from the National Bureau of Statistics show that prices of food items have been coming down steadily, and that has been validated. Also, inflation has come down, and he has been able to unify the foreign exchange rates.
“Interestingly, nobody has gone in search of fuel with jerry cans throughout this festive period. These are upward economic movements. So, I’m convinced that he will be re-elected.”
Onuigbo, a two-term representative for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, explained that the thanksgiving service was to honour God’s mercies on him and his family.
He said God had protected and elevated his family from humble beginnings.
“We have been through a lot, including a series of political challenges, but in all these, God saw us through, and that is why we have come to show Him gratitude,” he said.
A former Commissioner for Lands and Finance, Onuigbo also pledged to rebuild the church in his community as a token of appreciation for God’s blessings in his life.
During the service, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Oliver Aba, encouraged the congregation to always be thankful to God.
Aba, referencing the story of the 10 lepers in the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 17, said that God values a grateful heart and urged attendees to follow Onuigbo’s example of acknowledging their humble beginnings.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that several dignitaries attended the occasion, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and the Senator for Abia Central, Austin Akobundu.
