Kano state fire service yesterday confirmed the death of a two-year-old child in a well at Yar’akwa Balangu Quarters, Tarauni Local Government Area.

The spokesman of the service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, who confirmed the incident to Chronicle, said the victim had died before he was taken out of the well.

Mohammed said the victim, Abdullahi Jibrin, was playing around the well located in his compound when he accidentally fall inside and drowned.

He said the Kofar Nassarawa division of the service received a distress call notifying it of the incident at 3:40pm on Monday.

The spokesman said the rescue team was mobilized to the scene at 3:52pm but were unable to rescue the victim alive.

His words: “We received a distress call at Kofar Nasarawa Division from one Malam Umar S. Umar, at about 3:40pm that a boy had fallen into a well.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 3:50pm,” Mohammed said.
He also said that the lifeless body of the little boy was recovered by the team and later handed over to his father, Alhaji Jibril Aliyu.

He, therefore, advised parents to caution their children against playing around wells, and to also endeavour to raise barriers around wells to prevent kids from falling into them.
