World Boxing Council heavyweight champion,  Deontay Wilder, has revealed he has Nigerian roots.

The American’s revelation about his origins comes as a shocker to fans of unified heavyweight world boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, whose Nigerian root is well known and documented.

Joshua holds three of the four major world championships in the sport: the IBF title since 2016, the WBA title since 2017, and the WBO title since March 2018. He is in discussion to fight Wilder sometime in 2019.

However, Wilder who is preparing for his bout against British pugilist, Tyson Fury, made the revelation during a round-table face off with Fury as they both look forward to their bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The 39-year-old popularly referred to as the Bronze Bomber will be defending his title against the Briton on December 1.

The American will hope to stretch his winning streak to 41 bouts having won his last 40 professional fights- with 39 of them decided by knockouts.

He defeated Abdelaziz Touilbini of Algeria and Mohamed Arjaoui of Morocco but lost to Clemente Russo of Italy in the semi-final to win bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Fury, on the other hand, has also been able to keep his slate clean after going 27 fights without a defeat.
