Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has delivered a stark verdict on his team’s latest setback, stating that his side absolutely earned their loss to Everton in their Premier League clash.
As reported by BBC Sports on Tuesday, Amorim admitted that United fell short of Everton’s drive and overall performance, even though they had the numerical advantage for more than seventy minutes.
Asked to give his evaluation of the match, Amorim responded, “They were the better team. We deserved to lose. Twenty minutes in the game, red card for the opponent. We need to win this game no matter what.”
Earlier reports highlighted that Everton escaped from an extraordinary moment at Old Trafford when Idrissa Gueye was shown a red card for slapping teammate Michael Keane, yet still managed to secure a 1-0 victory over United.
Reflecting on the outcome, Amorim added, “Old Trafford was there saying ‘we are all here to give a big step up’ and I felt that we were not ready. Again, these five weeks, when everyone is praising our evolution, I’m always saying the same things. We are not even near what we’re supposed to be in this club.”
United had invested £250 million over the summer in an attempt to rebuild the squad, which had fallen to a shocking 15th place the previous season.
The team currently holds 10th place in the Premier League, grouped closely with Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool, and sits just three points away from the top four.
