FC Barcelona are set to play their first match at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou this week, with Athletic Club confirmed as their inaugural opponents at the renovated stadium.
The team has been away from their historic home for over a year as extensive reconstruction continued under the Espai Barça project. Throughout the upgrade period, Barcelona hosted their home games at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Sharing an update via X on Monday, Fabrizio Romano noted, “Barcelona will make their long-awaited return this week, with Athletic Club as the first visitors at the upgraded stadium.”
The homecoming represents a major milestone for the club, with supporters eager to witness the transformed Camp Nou in action.
The fixture against Athletic Club will officially unveil the renewed Spotify Camp Nou and is expected to attract a full-capacity crowd.
Additional updates on final preparations and pre-match activities are expected from the club soon.
Earlier reports indicated that Barcelona had to delay their planned August return to Camp Nou due to licensing-related issues.
