Tragedy befell the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos state, Nigeria at the weekend when two teenagers reportedly drowned in a community beach.

The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said some members of the community reported the matter at the Ibeju-Lekki Divisional Police Station on Saturday.

Elkana said the police received a distress call that Dare, 16 and Fawas, 15 both residents of Epelemeje Orofun community, Akodo in Ibeju-Lekki, allegedly drowned while playing in the community beach.

According to him, “the command has deployed its Marine Police Team to the area on search and rescue operation.”

He advised parents to monitor their children and ensure that they remain at home during this lockdown.
