The authorities in Guinea say they will respond vigorously to any violence at a planned opposition protest due to start later on Monday.

Opponents of President Alpha Conde accuse him of planning to change Guinea’s constitution so he can run for a third term in office in elections this year.

Previous demonstrations against Mr Conde’s possible third term bid have attracted hundreds of thousands.

They have also been violent, with more than twenty people killed since October last year.
