A group of protesters who converged Monday morning at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos’, Nigeria to begin what they tagged ‘Revolution Now’, reportedly scampered for safety when some officers of the Nigerian Police attempted to disperse them with pepper spray and teargas.

According to the group, the aim of the Revolution Now movement is to demand good governance.

The group comprising university students, human rights activists, civil servants, and artisans had as early as 6.AM started to lay siege at the stadium and brandishing placards with different inscriptions with insinuations to bad governance.

The convener of the movement, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore was arrested on Saturday by the Department of the State Security (DSS) while calling on Nigerians to join in the movement.

The Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu had warned against any gathering declaring such as Treason. Despite the arrest, the group insisted on going ahead with the protest. They condemned the DSS for arresting Sowore, saying that all they are doing is demanding for good governance and cannot be referred to as treason.
