The Akachi tower in Imo state measuring over 40 feet has reportedly been attacked with bulldozers by a contracted demolition company, barely a week after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo commissioned it.

The act targetted at bringing down the gigantic structure is being blamed on Emeka Ihedioha, Imo state governor who has just assumed office.

The Akachi tower was built by the state’s immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha on a reclaimed dumpsite in Owerri that was abandoned by previous administrations.

Okorocha had, during its inauguration, described the Akachi Tower as symbolising the hand of God over Imo State.

He had also stated that the monument would be tourists’ attraction.

However, while the earth-moving equipment was demolishing the monument, military operatives numbering over 25 came and chased the workers away.

The military men who barricaded the environment as of the time of filing this report resisted people who had come to catch a glimpse of the demolition from gaining access to the place.
