The Deputy Speaker of the Yobe state House of Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Kurmi, has died.

According to family sources, Kurmi died at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu  Monday night after a long battle with an undisclosed ailment.

He was 48 years old.

Born on March 23rd 1971, Kurmi, a trained medical doctor, represented Fika/Gadaka constituency in the state assembly and was first elected deputy speaker in 2011, before his resignation in 2012. He was re-elected to represent his constituency for the second time in 2015 and was again made the deputy speaker, a position he occupied until his death.

He is survived by two wives and many chiuldren. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

Reacting to the news, APC National Secretary and the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Yobe State, Hon Mai Mala Buni, expressed shock over the demise of the Deputy Speaker.

In a statement forwarded to DailyPost, on Tuesday morning, he extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, Fika Emirate Council, Yobe State House of Assembly, Government, and good people of Yobe State over the loss.

“I pray for the soul of the deceased to rest in Jannatul Firdaus and his family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the remains of the deceased will be committed to mother earth today February 19, 2019, in Damaturu, according Islamic rites.
