Some police operatives on Wednesday morning arrested a lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Ogungbeje had represented the alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans.

Police operatives said to be from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, swooped on the lawyer as he parked his car at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Wednesday morning.

Ogungbeje, who was billed to appear before the vacation judge, Justice Muslim Hassan, was immediately whisked off by the policemen.

Despite facing kidnap charges, Evans’ story has been a source of inspiration to potential kidnappers, with one suspect arrested in 2017 confessing that Evans’ and the luxurious life he lived made him venture into kidnapping.

When arrested in Ogun over an attempt to kidnap his neighbour, Precious Ogundiran, 44-year-old bricklayer Mukaila Alatunse said he drew inspiration from Evans.

WuzupNaija gathered that Ogundiran lives with her parents at Lemode in the Ijoko area of the state and is the only child of the family.

Alatunse was said to have discussed his plan to abduct Ogundiran with a vigilante in the neighbourhood, telling him that they could get as much as N5m ransom from her parents.

It was gathered that the vigilante played along with the father of seven, and later divulged the plan to Ogundiran’s father, a lecturer at the National Open University of Nigeria on Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The father was said to have reported the case to the police at the Agbado division, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Monday.
