Residents of Ayobo, Lagos, woke up Sunday morning to the gory sight of a helpless mother with face and skull battered by her son in his morbid attempt to advance his cyber fraud to the ritual level, known as Yahoo plus.
The suspect, Taiwo Akinola of 29 years, said to be a staunch member of the Aiye cult group, lives with his mother, Mrs Alice Iyabo and her grandchild, Farouk, age 14 years.
According to Taiwo, in a carefully thought out plan to kill his mother, he went to her provision store in front of their apartment and told her to meet him inside the house for an important discussion and at same time, sent his nephew, Farouk to go buy a white handkerchief and a stick of cigarette.
As soon as the victim entered the house, the suspect attacked her, smashing her head with a wood, pressing iron and a UPS charger to ensure she didn’t survive the ferocious attack.
Farouk returned from his errand and when he didn’t see his grandmother in the store, he went into the house only to see the woman lying in a pool of blood.
Having raised an alarm, the police was alerted and consequently appeared at the scene and arrested the suspect.
During a brief interrogation, the suspect disclosed that he was asked to kill his mother in order to have more money. When his room was searched, the police recovered: two calabashes containing human skull, a wood perforated with nails and smeared in blood, a pressing iron stained with blood, a white handkerchief and a bottle containing oil and labelled ‘back to sender.’
The victim is currently fighting for her life in an undisclosed hospital.
