Five days after renovation and completion of the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba, Delta state, an overheard water tank collapsed and destroyed several cars parked within.

Prior to the completion, the stadium was an abandoned project that started during the time that Chief James Ibori was governor, it passed through Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan untouched, until finally, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the incumbent governor decided to complete the project.

A cross section of residents expressed sadness at the incident, pointing out that Okowa only saw the need to complete the project due to the African Senior Athletic Championship that began on the 1st of August in Asaba, adding that the misfortune which happened on the second day of the championship may pass unpalatable message to visitors and athletes about the capital city.
